Math Topic Outline

Welcome back!  Hopefully you are all rested and ready to start learning again.  Below is a tentative outline for upcoming topics in math.  I will note if dates are firm.  We have a Quarterly Math Assessment coming up that will cover the first 4 units we have covered so far this year.  The homework packet will have materials that will help students prepare for the test.  Please contact me if you have any questions.  The unit 4 test will require students to pay close attention to reading the story problem.  We will spend this upcoming week discussing vocabulary and key words that help determine if we are adding or subtracting.  Also 2-step problems will be part of this test and before we left for break, I noticed many students were not completing the second step, so we really need to concentrate on recognizing if we need to complete 2-steps.  Students haven't fully grasped the concept that reading the problem several times is crucial in solving the problem; they want to get right to a numerical answer without comprehending what it is they are solving.  Please help me reinforce this during homework by asking them what the problem wants them to find.  Being able to verbalize what the problem is asking is a sign that they understand the problem.

The dates below are firm, no changes will be made.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!
